Our relationship with Jesus Christ is the most critical and important relationship we will ever have. Yet, so many Christians lack the knowledge of the true God which leads to an empty spiritual life. The beautiful thing about Jesus is that He is real and He cares for us more than we could ever imagine!

Our Purpose

The Bible tells us that we were created for a purpose: “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10). We have been made in God’s image and likeness, and we have been placed on this earth to fulfil his purpose. Our purpose is not to simply exist or to do whatever feels good to us at the moment; it is to worship and serve God.

When Adam sinned by disobeying God’s command not to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, he lost his way and began worshipping God ignorantly. Adam believed that he could gain knowledge through eating from the tree when God had told him not to. This was a major turning point in human history because it was when man started worshipping himself instead of God (Romans 1:21). “To know Him is life eternal” (John 17:3). But this doesn’t mean just knowing about Him; we can’t just know about him; we have to know him personally and this means knowing Him personally through a relationship with Jesus Christ. It means having an intimate relationship with God.

How to Know God Personally

You may have been brought up in a Christian home and go to church, but if you are not seeking God and not looking for him, you may be worshiping him in ignorance. You can be ignorant of the true God for many reasons: you are confused about who Jesus is – he is not just another prophet or teacher; you think that God is angry with you all the time; you don’t know how to pray; you believe that Christians are hypocrites; or because your church doesn’t teach what the Bible says about these things.

If you want to know God personally then you must ask him to reveal himself to you. The Bible tells us that we cannot come into a personal relationship with him unless we seek after him with all our hearts (Jeremiah 29:13). So why do people turn away from God? Because they refuse to seek after him and they don’t want anything to do with his ways. They prefer their own way of life which leads them away from God. But if we truly desire something then it will happen because God always answers our prayers when we ask for his help (John 15:7-8).

God is not an impersonal Force

God is not an impersonal force or a cosmic creator, but a person who desires to relate to us as his children. He wants us to know him, love him and obey him. It is impossible to know God without having faith in him. The Bible says that “faith comes by hearing” (Romans 10:17). To know God we must hear about him from someone else—either through the Bible or from other people who have heard about him from someone else, who have read the Bible for themselves and learned about God through personal experience with him.
