So Much Ado About the Prophetic

So Much Ado About the Prophetic

Most time when I hear about the prophetic, when I hear things like learning the prophetic, operating the prophetic, or mentoring in the prophetic… I ask myself: is there anything higher than the ministry of the Holy Spirit? Well, I quite know my understanding is insufficient but I am not unassured in understanding. In the whole New Testament Scriptures, I am yet to find out that art called the prophetic. It now seems the prophetic or being prophetic is a core specialisation in the gospel. When I see this emphasis, I ask myself where is the person of the Holy Ghost?

Instead, I find in the Scriptures the working and administration of the gift of the Holy Ghost. (1 Cor. 12:1-11). However, I think people like to brand this as the prophetic, because they see it as an attainment. Although, there are measures of the administration of the gifts of the Spirit; yet all are abilities of the person of the Holy Spirit. There is verily the prophetic life which accords to the nature and life of the Son of God. There is the prophetic Spirit which witnesses the scriptural wisdom of that life and there is also the office of the prophet which unveils the truth of the life and gift of prophecy for edification in truth.

The Person of the Holy Spirit

But when I hear the prophetic, it sounds like another science or another kind of a supernatural learning. In all of these things, the Person of the Holy Spirit – Someone with a will, who can be grieved – is not included in such art. In fact, believers no longer honour the presence of the indwelling person of the Spirit. It is good to seek spiritual gifts; and much more excellently, for edification and for knowing the LordThe Person of the Spirit is the Lord!

Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 2 Corinthians 3:17

Even when it comes to speaking in tongues, by the Scriptures, they spoke as the Spirit granted them utterance. Yes, permitted utterances by faith. It means there is a Person who has the will and permissions of spiritual gifts.  The first school a soul should learn in the Spirit is not some art of the prophetic BUT the authority of the Holy Spirit through the Word. We do not move the Spirit in the New Testimony, we wait on the LORD; that is, the Spirit. There are boundaries of the witnessed word and permitted spiritual manifestations by the Person of the Spirit!

Abide in My Words

This Is the Secret: every true spiritual manifestation will first connect us to Jesus!  You cannot find words like the ‘realm of the spirit’ repeatedly in the Scriptures. God is not introducing you you to a realm but to a Person! The excellent way to abound in all gifts is to “…abide in My Words…” The revealed word is life and spirit. Just keep learning Christ, you will know and discern Him. Knowing the Way of the Spirit is to know the revealed biblical truth; and the syllabus of that Way is eternal life (John 17:3, 1 John 5:20) and none else! God has called us into the fellowship of the Son (1 Cor. 1:9). In most of Kenneth E. Hagin’s documentations of spiritual encounters, he always refers to his visions of Jesus as permitted appearances.

Not all spiritual manifestations are permitted for the Church! Let us hold fast to the things which are most surely believed among us! (Luke 1:1) Hold the Word, do not veer off! (Phil. 2:16, Eph. 4:15-16, Col. 2:16-19, 1Thess. 5:21, 1 Tim. 1:19, 3:9, 2 Tim. 1:13, Tit. 1:9, Heb. 10:23)
